Beating Addiction

by Catherine
(Jonesburg, MO)

I was severely addicted to drugs and alcohol. I made a goal to stop no matter how much everything else in me wouldn't allow it. I never lost hope and never gave up. Today I am 6 months clean and sober. I never have to use drugs and alcohol again. My affirmations and goals allowed me to accomplish my dream. Today I work with teenagers who have the same struggles I had. I am hoping to give them an understanding of their worthiness through affirmations and the act of setting realistic goals for their lives.

Overcoming Smoking

by Debi
(KY)

I have struggled w/cigarette smoking since my teens (currently in my late 40's) and have had various periods of abstinence w/my longest being 4 yrs. since age 18. I began using the affirmation, "I release the need to smoke" for several weeks and continued to utilize visualizations of myself as a non-smoker also. I am happy to say that I am currently cigarette (and nicotine) free for the past 5 weeks. While it may not be that long in terms of my "freedom" from cigarettes, I do believe that the affirmations, even while still smoking, moved me to take action on my "goal". I believe!!! Thanks!!

Moved at no cost

by Jennifer
(Gray Court, SC)

A few years ago, my husband got hooked on drugs, and starting beating me up. I knew I had to move but he kept taking the money. I came up with the affirmation " I am going to (City) and You will show me the way."

Whenever I had doubts of where, how, etc., I would just shake my head "no" and keep repeating the affirmation. I had it posted to my bathroom mirror, the frig, and in my car.

Soon there was opening transfer for my job. They paid everything - U-haul (and someone from the company drove it), electricity deposit, PET deposit, security deposit and first month's rent and I didn't have to pay a cent back!

It was a true miracle and I've learned over the years, you either believe, or you don't. You will always have doubts but when you do, get rid of them fast!

Believe, believe, believe!!

Addiction Center
by: Danny Hanarahan

Good afternoon,

My name is Danny Hanrahan and I am writing because when I was in college, I nearly lost a parent to addiction. Since then, I’ve wanted to be able to help others that find themselves in the same predicament. Now, I work as the Community Outreach Manager for a substance abuse support site, AddictionCenter.com. We are determined to help individuals suffering from substance abuse and prevent new cases in any way we can.

About a month ago, the New York Times reported on statistics from the Center for Disease Control that there were over 17% more fatalities from overdose in 2016 than in 2015. This number is projected to increase even more from 2016 to 2017. In recognition of this, we at Addiction Center wanted to take this opportunity to focus on being supportive by reaching out to as many people as possible.

Recently, I came across your website; having looked over www.mokenalibrary.org/research-resources/health-websites/, I feel that substance abuse is a subject that we could help you cover further. Are you willing to partner with us by adding it as a resource? Our team would be very grateful. Please let me know what you think and thank you for all that you do.
